XML in SQL Server, Why bother? The OttawaSQL.Net Talk

by Jean-Rene Roy 20. May 2010 22:50

Last week I was giving sessions about XML. I did it before at the Ottawa IT Day and the Toronto Code Camp. But this time I enhance it with some code simple that output XML that I was using back in year 2000. This example was interesting because 2000 was when this buzz work hit all developer like a brick. Now, to know what this is all about you need to be there. The good news is that all the code from this demo fest can be downloaded right here.  If you have questions call or email me

One more talk on the Sync. Framework...

by Jean-Rene Roy 25. March 2010 00:56

Yesterday I did again my talk about the MS Sync. Framework. This time it was the ODNC for the lunch presentation.  Attendees had very good questions and it shows the interest on this tools.  In fact I am using in production the Sync. Framework with the File Provider and it really fast.  Coding something like that will take me a long time before I get it right. If you do not know what is the MS Sync. Framework. Check it out at this link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sync/default.aspx

Lunch talk about the Sync Framework at the OttawaCommunity.NET

by Jean-Rene Roy 11. March 2010 21:46

Yesterday I did again my talk about the Sync framework at the OttawaCommunity.NET.

At start we had small technical problem with the projector and we started 10 min. last. That is too bad because I did not get a chance to show one of the demos.  The attendees had very good questions about this free framework and I think I raise some interest in this product.  What amazes me when I present this talk is the fact that most attendees do not know what the SQL Server Compact Edition is. Anyway if you have been at this presentation, you can download the source code from a previous blog I did in 2009. See the link below.

My Auto Audit Video is online...

by Jean-Rene Roy 15. January 2010 10:47

What is Auto Audit? Well this is a free tool that help finding out what append to your data in a OLTP database. T-SQL codegen script that creates complete audit trail triggers for SQL Server 2005 / 2008. Includes back-out procs, and view deleted rows. also adds Created, Modified, and RowVersion columns to table. Requires single-column integer primary keys. AutoAudit proc applies trigger on your table and more. I did a video that show how this is working and also show the new Debugger in SSMS.

You can find the Auto Audit at this link: http://autoaudit.codeplex.com/releases/view/42619

DemoCamp Done!

by Jean-Rene Roy 10. December 2009 01:51

Last night I did my presentation at www.TechDays.ca DemoCamp. After 15 minutes I had many questions for another 10 minutes. It’s look like the File Sync. Provider is very popular or my presentation was not that clear.  The application I show in this presentation can be downloaded from a previous blog I did back in April 2009. That application was created by Eric Moreau VB MVP. I alter it a bit with a timer because I am using it on my server to sync directory’s containing over 10 000 files (1.5 gb). That take lest then a 30 sec. on my network.  Try it, it easy to use. Smile

DevTeach is looking for speakers for its event in Toronto.

by Jean-Rene Roy 18. November 2009 10:09

Maryse and I are very happy to announce the dates (March 8-12, 2010) of our next event.  This DevTeach event will be a Special Edition and a Limited edition. Let me explain: It’s a special edition because we are doing it in the Microsoft Canada Headquarters conference center in Mississauga with special speakers and it’s a limited edition because we are limiting the registration to 240. But that’s not all. We are also reducing the price by $249 and we are keeping our early bird discount.  Combine this with the possibility to register to a pre-conference or a post-conference you really get the best training with the finest speakers for a really good price.

Right now we are looking for speakers and if you have been speaking, we encourage you to submit your sessions. The deadline to submit is December 4th. Check out the tech chair team and the track we are covering at this link.
